حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْحَافِظُ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ ثَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ قَالَ
انْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى الْبَصْرَةِ فَدَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَإِذَا شَيْخٌ مُسْتَنِدٌ إِلَى أُسْطُوَانَةٍ يُحَدِّثُ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «خَيْرُ النَّاسِ قَرْنِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَأْتِي أَقْوَامٌ يُعْطُونَ الشَّهَادَةَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْأَلُوهَا» فَقُلْتُ مَنْ هَذَا الشَّيْخُ؟ قَالُوا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ

✧ I went to Basra and entered the mosque, and there was an old man leaning against a pillar, narrating. He was saying: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. Then there will come people who give testimony before they are asked for it." I said: Who is this old man? They said: Imran ibn Husain.
