✧ Abu Ayyub Khalid b. Zayd, in whose house the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had stayed, went on a campaign to the land of the Romans. He passed by Mu'awiya, and Mu'awiya treated him harshly. Then he returned from his campaign, and Mu'awiya treated him harshly and did not raise his head to him. Abu Ayyub said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us that after him we would see selfishness.' Mu'awiya said, 'And what did he command you?' He said, 'He commanded us to be patient.' He said, 'Then be patient.' So he came to 'Abd Allah b. 'Abbas in Basra, whom 'Ali, ؓ, had appointed over it, and said, 'O Abu Ayyub, I want to leave my dwelling for you as you left yours for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He ordered his family, and they left, and he gave him everything that was in the house. When it was time for his departure, he said, 'Your need?' He said, 'My need is my stipend and eight slaves to work on my land.' His stipend was four thousand, and he multiplied it for him five times, giving him twenty thousand and forty slaves. 'This hadith has already been mentioned with a connected, authentic chain, and I repeated it for the additions in it with this chain.' It has already been mentioned with an authentic chain.
