حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الْإِمَامُ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نُعَيْمٍ ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ ثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ إِسْحَاقَ يَقُولُ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ مَرْثَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْيَزَنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ قَالَ

لَمَّا نَزَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قُلْتُ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي إِنِّي أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَكُونَ فَوْقَكَ وَتَكُونَ أَسْفَلَ مِنِّي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنِّي أَرْفَقُ بِي أَنْ أَكُونَ فِي السُّفْلَى لِمَا يَغْشَانَا مِنَ النَّاسِ» قَالَ فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ جَرَّةً لَنَا انْكَسَرَتْ فَاهُرِيقَ مَاؤُهَا فَقُمْتُ أَنَا وَأُمُّ أَيُّوبَ بِقَطِيفَةٍ لَنَا مَا لَنَا لِحَافٌ غَيْرَهَا نُنَشِّفُ بِهَا الْمَاءَ فَرَقًا أَنْ يَصِلَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ شَيْءٌ يُؤْذِيهِ

✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed with me, I said, 'May my father and mother be your ransom, I dislike being above you while you are below me.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'It is more comfortable for me to be on the lower floor because of the people coming to us.' He said: I saw a jar of ours break and its water spill, so I and Umm Ayyub stood with a velvet cloth of ours—we had no other blanket—drying the water with it, fearing that something harmful might reach the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
