فَحَدَّثَنِي الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ ثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ الْكَلْبِيِّ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْكِنْدِيُّ قَالَ
شَهِدْنَا جِنَازَةَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ فَلَمَّا دُلِّيَ فِي حُفْرَتِهِ وَقَفَ عَلَيْهَا رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا الْمَرْمُوسُ؟ فَقُلْنَا أَمِيرُ الْكُوفَةِ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا لَبِثَ أَنْ قَالَ [البحر الطويل] أَرَسْمُ دِيَارٍ بِالْمُغِيرَةِ تُعْرَفُ عَلَيْهِ رَوَابِي الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ تَعْرِفُ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ قَدْ أَبْقَيْتَ هَامَانَ بَعْدَنَا وَفِرْعَوْنَ فَاعْلَمْ أَنَّ ذَا الْعَرْشِ يُنْصِفُ قَالَ فَأَقْبَلُوا عَلَيْهِ يَشْتِمُونَهُ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا أَدْرِي أَيَّ طَرِيقٍ أَخَذَ وَكَانَتْ وِلَايَةُ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ الْكُوفَةَ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ
Translation

✧ We attended the funeral of al-Mughira b. Shuba. When he was lowered into his grave, a man stood over it and said: "Who is this buried one?" We said: "The governor of Kufa, al-Mughira b. Shuba." By Allah, it was not long before he said: [al-Bahr al-Tawil] "Is it the trace of a dwelling of al-Mughira that is known? Over it the hills of jinn and humans are known. If you have left behind Haman after us and Pharaoh, then know that the Lord of the Throne is just." He said: They turned on him and reviled him. By Allah, I do not know which way he went. The governorship of al-Mughira b. Shuba over Kufa lasted seven years.
