حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَطَّةَ ثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرِ بْنِ رُسْتَةَ ثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الشَّاذَكُونِيُّ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ
عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ يُكَنَّى أَبَا يُوسُفَ وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ قَبْلَ الْإِسْلَامِ الْحُصَيْنَ فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَ «سَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ» وَهُوَ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مِنْ وَلَدِ يُوسُفَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ عَلَيْهِمَا الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ وَحَلِيفُ لِلْقَوَاقِلَةِ مِنْ بَنِي عَوْفِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ وَتُوُفِّيَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي أَقَاوِيلَ جَمِيعِهِمْ سَنَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ فِي خِلَافَةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ

✧ 'Abd Allah b. Salam was given the kunya Abu Yusuf. His name before Islam was al-Husayn. When he embraced Islam, "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named him 'Abd Allah." He was from the Children of Israel, from the descendants of Yusuf b. Ya'qub (peace be upon them both), and an ally of the Qawaqila from Banu 'Awf b. al-Khazraj. 'Abd Allah b. Salam died in Madinah, according to all their statements, in the year forty-three during the caliphate of Mu'awiya.
