حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدِ الْبَاقِي بْنُ قَانِعِ الْحَافِظُ ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنُ مُسَاوِرٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبْجَرَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ وَاصِلِ بْنِ حَبَّانَ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ خَطَبَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ فَأَبْلَغَ وَأَوْجَزَ فَقُلْنَا يَا أَبَا الْيَقْظَانِ لَقَدْ أَبَلَغْتَ وَأَوْجَزْتَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ طُولَ الصَّلَاةِ وَقِصَرَ الْخُطْبَةِ مَئِنَّةٌ مِنْ فِقْهِ الرَّجُلِ فَأَطِيلُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَأَقْصِرُوا الْخُطْبَةَ» صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ بِهَذِهِ السِّيَاقَةِ على شرط البخاري ومسلم

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Indeed, the length of the prayer and the shortness of the khutba are a sign of a man's understanding of the religion, so prolong the prayer and shorten the khutba." Sahih according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it with this wording according to the conditions of al-Bukhari and Muslim.
