حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَلِيمٍ ثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ الْجُعْفِيِّ قَالَ
أَتَيْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَسَأَلْتُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُيَسِّرَ لِي جَلِيسًا صَالِحًا فَيَسَّرَ لِي أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ فَقَالَ لِي «مِمَّنْ أَنْتَ؟» فَقُلْتُ مِنْ أَرْضِ الْكُوفَةِ جِئْتُ أَلْتَمِسُ الْعِلْمَ وَالْخَيْرَ فَقَالَ «أَلَيْسَ فِيكُمْ سَعْدُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ مُجَابَ الدَّعْوَةِ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ صَاحِبَ طَهُورِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَنَعْلَيْهِ وَحُذَيْفَةُ بْنُ الْيَمَانِ صَاحِبُ سِرِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَعَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ الَّذِي أَجَارَهُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِ ﷺ وَسَلْمَانُ صَاحِبُ الْكِتَابَيْنَ؟» قَالَ قَتَادَةُ «وَالْكِتَابَانِ الْإِنْجِيلُ وَالْفُرْقَانُ» صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ الحديث صحيح

✧ I came to Madinah and asked Allah to make easy for me a righteous companion to sit with, and He made easy for me Abu Hurayrah. He said to me: "From which people are you?" I said, "From the land of Kufah; I came seeking knowledge and good." He said, "Is there not among you Sa'd b. Malik, whose supplication is answered; and 'Abd Allah b. Mas'ud, the keeper of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ's purification and his sandals; and Hudhayfah b. al-Yaman, the keeper of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ's secret; and 'Ammar b. Yasir, whom Allah protected from Satan upon the tongue of His Prophet ﷺ; and Salman, the possessor of the two books?" Qatadah said: "The two books are the Injil and the Furqan." Its chain is authentic, but they did not include it. The hadith is authentic.
