فَأَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَوْنٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَاهَانَ الْخَزَّازُ بِمَكَّةَ ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ عُبَادَةَ بْنَ الصَّامِتِ قَامَ قَائِمًا فِي وَسَطِ دَارِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُحَمَّدًا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ يَقُولُ «سَيَلِي أُمُورَكُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِي رِجَالٌ يُعَرِّفُونَكُمْ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ وَيُنْكِرُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ فَلَا طَاعَةَ لِمَنْ عَصَى اللَّهَ فَلَا تَعْتُبُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ مِنْ أُولَئِكَ» فَمَا رَاجَعَهُ عُثْمَانُ حَرْفًا «وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ فِي وُرُودِ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ مُتَظَلِّمًا بِمَتْنٍ مُخْتَصَرٍ»

Translation

✧ 'Ubada b. al-Samit stood up in the middle of the courtyard of the Commander of the Faithful 'Uthman b. 'Affan and said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Muhammad Abu al-Qasim, say, 'After me, men will govern your affairs who will make you recognize what you disapprove and will disapprove of what you recognize. So there is no obedience to the one who disobeys Allah, and do not blame yourselves. By the One in whose hand is my soul, Mu'awiya is one of those.'" 'Uthman did not reply to him with a single word. This hadith has been narrated with a sound chain according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs regarding 'Ubada b. al-Samit's coming to 'Uthman b. 'Affan complaining, with an abridged text.
