machine translationAl-Nawawī withheld judgement on it because of Ibn Isḥāq's use of "from" (ʿanʿanah), but he explicitly stated direct narration (taḥdīth) in the narration of Aḥmad and others.
in المستدرك على الصحيحين, p. 554 - Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī
machine translationIbn ʿAbd al-Barr weakened it because of Abān b. Ṣāliḥ, but he was mistaken in that, for he is trustworthy (thiqah) by agreement. Ibn Ḥazm claimed that he is unknown (majhūl), and he erred.

machine translationAl-Ḥākim's statement that it is authentic according to the condition of Muslim is incorrect, because Abān, its narrator from Mujāhid from Jābir, is one for whom Muslim did not narrate anything, and the hadith is his and revolves around him.
