✧ Abdullah b. Zayd b. Abd Rabbihi b. Tha'labah b. Zayd b. al-Harith, and he was called Abu Muhammad. Abdullah b. Zayd was present among the seventy of the Ansar on the night of al-Aqabah, according to the narration of all of them, and he was present at Badr, Uhud, the Trench, and all the battles with the Messenger of God ﷺ. He carried the banner of Banu al-Harith b. al-Khazraj in the campaign of the conquest. He is the one who was shown the call to prayer, which the jurists of Islam have accepted and transmitted. It was not included in the two Sahihs due to the disagreement of the transmitters regarding its chains. The best of the narrations about it is the narration of Sa'id b. al-Musayyib. Some of our imams mistakenly thought that Sa'id did not meet Abdullah b. Zayd, but that is not so, for Sa'id b. al-Musayyib was among those who interceded between Ali and Uthman, and Abdullah b. Zayd died only in the latter part of Uthman's caliphate. The hadith of al-Zuhri from Sa'id b. al-Musayyib is well-known, narrated by Yunus b. Yazid, Ma'mar b. Rashid, Shu'ayb b. Abi Hamzah, Muhammad b. Ishaq, and others. As for the reports of the Kufans in this chapter, their basis is the hadith of Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Layla. Some of them said it is from Mu'adh b. Jabal or Abdullah b. Zayd, and some of them said Abd al-Rahman from Abdullah b. Zayd. As for the reports of the children of Abdullah b. Zayd from their fathers from him, their chains are not sound. Abdullah b. Zayd attributed this hadith to the Messenger of God ﷺ.
