✧ Umar b. al-Khattab sought rain in the Year of Ashes through al-Abbas b. Abd al-Muttalib, saying: 'O God, this is the uncle of Your Prophet, al-Abbas. We turn to You through him, so give us rain.' They did not leave until God gave them rain. Then Umar addressed the people, saying: 'O people, the Messenger of God ﷺ regarded al-Abbas as a son regards his father, honoring him, magnifying him, and fulfilling his oath. So, O people, follow the Messenger of God ﷺ in regard to his uncle al-Abbas and take him as a means to God ﷻ in whatever befalls you.'
