فَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ بَالَوَيْهِ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْحَرْبِيُّ ثَنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ «إِنَّ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ النَّجَّارِ مَاتَ فِي خِلَافَةِ عُثْمَانَ وَكَانَ أَبْيَضَ الرَّأْسِ وَاللِّحْيَةِ قُتِلَ سَنَةَ تِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ وَقِيلَ سَنَةَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَعِشْرِينَ وَقِيلَ
أَنَّهُ مَاتَ فِي خِلَافَةِ عُثْمَانَ سَنَةَ ثَلَاثِينَ وَذُكِرَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُكَنَّى أَبَا الطُّفَيْلِ وَكَانَتْ لَهُ كُنْيَتَانِ وَكَانَتْ وَفَاتُهُ بِمَدِينَةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بَعْدَ أَنْ ظَهَرَ الطَّعْنُ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ»
Translation

✧ He died during the caliphate of Uthman in the year thirty. It was mentioned that he had the kunya Abu al-Tufayl, and he had two kunyas. His death was in the city of the Prophet ﷺ after the criticism of Uthman had appeared.
