✧ Hisham b. al-'As b. Wa'il was a righteous man. On the day of Ajnadayn, he saw some of the Muslims retreating from their enemy, so he threw off his helmet and said: 'O assembly of Muslims, these uncircumcised ones have no endurance against the sword, so do as I do.' Then he plunged into their midst, killing a number of them, and advanced against the enemy, shouting: 'To me, O assembly of Muslims, to me! I am Hisham b. al-'As b. Wa'il. Are you fleeing from Paradise?' until he was killed.
