✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ presented a sword on the day of Uhud and said, “Who will take this sword with its due?” I stood up and said, “I, O Messenger of Allah.” He turned away from me, then said, “Who will take this sword with its due?” I said, “I, O Messenger of Allah.” He turned away from me, then said, “Who will take this sword with its due?” Abu Dujanah Simak b. Kharashah stood up and said, “I will take it, O Messenger of Allah, with its due. What is its due?” He said, “That you do not kill a Muslim with it and do not flee with it from a disbeliever.” He said, “So he handed it to him. And whenever he intended to fight, he would signal with a band.” He said, “I said, ‘I will certainly watch him today to see what he does.’” He said, “So he began not to encounter anything without tearing it apart and ripping it open, until he reached some women at the foot of the mountain, who had tambourines with them. Among them was a woman saying [in rajaz meter]: ‘We are the daughters of Tariq; we walk upon cushions. If you advance, we embrace and spread the cushions; or if you retreat, we part, a parting without love.’” He said, “He raised the sword toward a woman to strike her, then held back from her. When the fighting was over, I said to him, ‘I saw all that you did, except that you raised the sword against the woman and did not strike her.’ He said, ‘By Allah, I honored the sword of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ too much to kill a woman with it.’” [Its chain is authentic, but they (al-Bukhari and Muslim) did not include it.] Sahih.
