فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْحَافِظُ أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْأُمَوِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبَّادِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ قَتْلِ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَامِرٍ بَعْدَ أَنِ الْتَقَى هُوَ وَأَبُو سُفْيَانَ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ حِينَ عَلَاهُ شَدَّادُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ بِالسَّيْفِ فَقَتَلَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ صَاحِبَكُمْ تُغَسِّلُهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ» فَسَأَلُوا صَاحِبَتَهُ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّهُ خَرَجَ لَمَّا سَمِعَ الْهَائِعَةَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لِذَلِكَ غَسَّلَتْهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ»

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say at the killing of Hanzala b. Abi Amir, after he and Abu Sufyan b. al-Harith met when Shaddad b. al-Aswad overpowered him with the sword and killed him, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Your companion is being washed by the angels." They asked his wife, and she said: "He went out when he heard the alarm while he was junub." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "For that reason the angels washed him."
