حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الزَّاهِدُ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَحْشٍ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُقْسِمُ عَلَيْكَ

أَنْ أَلْقَى الْعَدُوَّ غَدًا فَيَقْتُلُونِي ثُمَّ يَبْقُرُوا بَطْنِي وَيَجْدَعُوا أَنْفِي وَأُذُنِي ثُمَّ تَسْأَلُنِي بِمَا ذَاكَ؟ فَأَقُولُ فِيكَ قَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ «إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ يَبَرَّ اللَّهُ آخِرَ قَسَمِهِ كَمَا بَرَّ أَوَّلَهُ»

✧ That I meet the enemy tomorrow, and they kill me, then they split open my belly, and cut off my nose and my ear, then You ask me, 'For what was that?' and I say, 'For You.' Sa'id b. al-Musayyib said, 'I hope that Allah will fulfill the last of his oath as He fulfilled the first.'
