حَدَّثَنَا الْحَاكِمُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَافِظُ إِمْلَاءً فِي الْمُحَرَّمِ سَنَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَأَرْبَعِ مِائَةٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ الْقَنْطَرِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ شَرِيكٍ ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ الْفَرَّاءُ ثنا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ الْحَنَفِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ فَقَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ حَمْزَةَ حِينَ فَاءَ النَّاسُ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ رَأَيْتُهُ عِنْدَ تِلْكِ الشَّجَرَةِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ أَنَا أَسَدُ اللَّهِ وَأَسَدُ رَسُولِهِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَبْرَأُ إِلَيْكَ مِمَّا جَاءَ بِهِ هَؤُلَاءِ لِأَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَأَصْحَابِهِ وَأَعْتَذِرُ إِلَيْكَ مِمَّا صَنَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ مِنِ انْهِزَامِهِمْ فَسَارِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَحْوَهُ فَلَمَّا رَأَى جَبْهَتَهُ بَكَى وَلَمَّا رَأَى مَا مُثِّلَ بِهِ شَهِقَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَلَا كُفِّنَ؟» فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَرَمَى بِثَوْبٍ قَالَ جَابِرٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «سَيِّدُ الشُّهَدَاءِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حَمْزَةُ»

✧ I heard Jabir b. 'Abd Allah say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ missed Hamza on the day of Uhud when the people returned from the fighting. He said: A man said, 'I saw him at that tree, saying: I am the lion of Allah and the lion of His Messenger. O Allah, I disavow to You what these have brought to Abu Sufyan and his companions, and I apologize to You for what these have done in their retreat.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went toward him. When he saw his forehead, he wept, and when he saw the mutilation done to him, he sobbed. Then he said, 'Should he not be shrouded?' A man from the Ansar stood up and threw a garment. Jabir said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The master of the martyrs with Allah, Exalted is He, on the Day of Resurrection is Hamza.'
