✧ A delegation from the people of Basra came to Ali, and among them was a man from the Kharijites called al-Ja'd b. Na'jah. He praised and extolled Allah, and invoked blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, then said: Fear Allah, O Ali, for you will die. Ali said: 'No, but I will be killed, struck on this, dyeing this.' Ali pointed to his head and his beard with his hand. 'A decree decreed and a covenant made, and he who fabricates has failed.' Then he criticized Ali's clothing, saying: If only you wore clothing better than this. Ali said: 'This clothing of mine is farther from pride for me and more deserving that the Muslims follow my example.' Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
