✧ Ali wanted to march to Syria to Siffin, and the Nakha' gathered until they entered upon al-Ashtar in his house. He said: "Is there in the house anyone but a Nakha'i?" They said: No. He said: "This ummah deliberately went to the best of its people and killed him, meaning Uthman. We fought the people of Basra on the basis of a pledge about which we interpreted, and you are marching to a people over whom we have no pledge. Let every man consider where he places his sword."
