✧ Some of the people said to him: "This one now claims that you fell into error regarding 'Uthman." He said: "That is what he says." He said: "Bring the man back to me." Then he said: "Did you understand what I said to you?" He said: "Yes. I asked you whether 'Uthman witnessed the Pledge of al-Ridwan, and you said no. I asked you whether he witnessed Badr, and you said no. I asked you whether he was among those whom Satan caused to slip, and you said yes." He said: "As for the Pledge of al-Ridwan, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and said: 'Uthman has gone on an errand for Allah and His Messenger,' and he allotted a share for him, but did not allot for any other absent person. As for those who turned away on the day the two hosts met, Satan only caused them to slip because of some of what they had earned, but Allah has pardoned them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing."
