حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ

عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ شَمْسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافِ بْنِ قُصَيِّ بْنِ كِلَابٍ وَأُمُّ عُثْمَانَ أَرْوَى بِنْتُ كَرِيزٍ وَأُمُّ أَرْوَى أُمُّ حَكِيمٍ وَهِيَ الْبَيْضَاءُ عَمَّةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَدِ اخْتَلَفُوا فِي كُنْيَةِ عُثْمَانَ فَقِيلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَقِيلَ أَبُو عَمْرٍو سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

✧ 'Uthman b. 'Affan b. Abi al-'As b. Umayyah b. 'Abd Shams b. 'Abd Manaf b. Qusayy b. Kilab. The mother of 'Uthman was Arwa bt. Kariz, and the mother of Arwa was Umm Hakim, who is al-Bayda', the paternal aunt of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They differed about the kunyah of 'Uthman: it was said Abu 'Abd Allah, and it was said Abu 'Amr. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
