حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ ثنا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ مُضَرِّبٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ

لَمَّا أُمِرَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِبِنَاءِ الْبَيْتِ خَرَجَ مَعَهُ إِسْمَاعِيلُ وَهَاجَرُ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ مَكَّةَ رَأَى عَلَى رَأْسِهِ فِي مَوْضِعِ الْبَيْتِ مِثْلَ الْغَمَامَةِ فِيهِ مِثْلُ الرَّأْسِ فَكَلَّمَهُ فَقَالَ يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ ابْنِ عَلَى ظِلِّي أَوْ عَلَى قَدْرِي وَلَا تَزِدْ وَلَا تَنْقُصْ فَلَمَّا بَنَى خَرَجَ وَخَلَّفَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَهَاجَرَ وَذَلِكَ حَيْثُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ ﷻ {وَإِذْ بَوَّأْنَا لِإِبْرَاهِيمَ مَكَانَ الْبَيْتِ أَنْ لَا تُشْرِكْ بِي شَيْئًا وَطَهِّرْ بَيْتِيَ لِلطَّائِفِينَ وَالْقَائِمِينَ وَالرُّكَّعِ السُّجُودِ}

Translation

✧ When Ibrahim ﷺ was commanded to build the House, Ismail and Hajar went out with him. When he arrived in Makkah, he saw above his head, in the place of the House, something like a cloud in which there was something like a head. It spoke to him and said: "O Ibrahim, build upon my shadow or upon my measure, and do not add or subtract." When he had built, he left and left behind Ismail and Hajar. That is where Allah ﷻ says: {And when We assigned to Ibrahim the site of the House, saying: Do not associate anything with Me, and purify My House for those who circumambulate, and those who stand, and those who bow and prostrate}.
