أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَحْمَسِيُّ بِالْكُوفَةِ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ السُّلَمِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الصَّادِقُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ

جَمَعَ رَبُّنَا ﷻ لِنُوحٍ عِلْمَ الْمَاضِينَ كُلِّهِمْ وَأَيَّدَهُ بِرُوحٍ مِنْهُ فَدَعَا قَوْمَهُ سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً تِسْعَ مِائَةٍ وَخَمْسِينَ سَنَةً كُلَّمَا مَضَى قَرْنٌ اتَّبَعَهُ قَرْنٌ فَزَادَهُمْ كُفْرًا وَطُغْيَانًا

Translation

✧ Our Lord, exalted is He, gathered for Nuh the knowledge of all the past peoples and supported him with a spirit from Him. He called his people secretly and openly for nine hundred and fifty years. Whenever a generation passed, another generation followed it, and it increased them in disbelief and tyranny.

Notes

  • The ḥadīth has a ṣaḥīḥ chain but they (Bukhāri and Muslim) did not collect it.

  • هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ صحيح
