قَالَتْ قُرَيْشٌ لِلْيَهُودِ أَعْطُونَا شَيْئًا نَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ فَقَالُوا سَلُوهُ عَنِ الرُّوحِ فَنَزَلَتْ {وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الرُّوحِ قُلِ الرُّوحُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّي وَمَا أُوتِيتُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا} [الإسراء 85] قَالُوا نَحْنُ لَمْ نُؤْتَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا وَقَدْ أُوتِينَا التَّوْرَاةَ فِيهَا حُكْمُ اللَّهِ وَمَنْ أُوتِيَ التَّوْرَاةَ فَقَدْ أُوتِيَ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا قَالَ فَنَزَلَتْ {قُلْ لَوْ كَانَ الْبَحْرُ مِدَادًا لِكَلِمَاتِ رَبِّي لَنَفِدَ الْبَحْرُ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَنْفَدَ كَلِمَاتُ رَبِّي وَلَوْ جِئْنَا بِمِثْلِهِ مَدَدًا}

✧ The Quraysh said to the Jews, "Give us something we can ask this man about." They said, "Ask him about the Spirit." So it was revealed {And they ask you about the Spirit. Say, 'The Spirit is from the command of my Lord, and you have not been given of knowledge except a little.'} [al-Isra 85]. They said, "We have not been given of knowledge except a little, yet we have been given the Torah, in which is the judgment of Allah. And whoever has been given the Torah has been given much good." He said: Then it was revealed {Say, 'If the sea were ink for the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord are exhausted, even if We brought the like of it as replenishment.'}"
