حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزِيدٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ وَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَالَوَيْهِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ النَّضْرِ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيُّ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ قَالَ

اجْتَمَعْنَا فَتَذَاكَرْنَا فَقُلْنَا أَيُّكُمْ يَأْتِي رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيَسْأَلَهُ أَيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ ثُمَّ تَفَرَّقْنَا وَهِبْنَا أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَمَعَنَا فَجَعَلَ يُومِئُ بَعْضُنَا إِلَى بَعْضٍ فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِمَ تَقُولُونَ مَا لَا تَفْعَلُونَ إِلَى آخِرِ السُّورَةِ قَالَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ فَقَرَأَهَا عَلَيْنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا إِلَى آخِرِهَا قَالَ يَحْيَى فَقَرَأَهَا عَلَيْنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا إِلَى آخِرِهَا قَالَ الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ فَقَرَأَهَا عَلَيْنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا إِلَى آخِرِهَا قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيُّ وَقَرَأَ عَلَيْنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا إِلَى آخِرِهَا قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو وَقَرَأَهَا عَلَيْنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيُّ مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا إِلَى آخِرِهَا قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ النَّضْرِ وَقَرَأَهَا عَلَيْنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا إِلَى آخِرِهَا قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ بَالَوَيْهِ وَقَرَأَهَا عَلَيْنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ النَّضْرِ مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا إِلَى آخِرِهَا

✧ We gathered and reminded one another, saying: 'Which of you will go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to ask him which deeds are most beloved to Allah?' Then we separated and were in awe that any of us should go to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for us and gathered us, and some of us began gesturing to others. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited to us: 'Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise. O you who believe, why do you say what you do not do?' to the end of the surah. Abu Salama said: 'Abdullah b. Salam recited it to us from its beginning to its end. Yahya said: Abu Salama recited it to us from its beginning to its end. Al-Awza'i said: Yahya b. Abi Kathir recited it to us from its beginning to its end. Abu Ishaq al-Fazari said: Al-Awza'i recited it to us from its beginning to its end. Mu'awiya b. 'Amr said: Abu Ishaq al-Fazari recited it to us from its beginning to its end. Muhammad b. Ahmad b. al-Nadr said: Mu'awiya b. 'Amr recited it to us from its beginning to its end. Abu Bakr b. Balawayh said: Muhammad b. Ahmad b. al-Nadr recited it to us from its beginning to its end."
