كَانَ طَاوُسٌ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ لَهُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ «اتْرُكُهَا» فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا نُهِيَ عَنْهُمَا أَنْ تَتَّخَذَ سُلَّمًا أَنْ يُوَصِّلَ ذَلِِكَ إِلَى غُرُوب الشَّمْسِ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَدْ نَهَى عَنْ صَلَاةٍ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ وَمَا أَدْرِي أَيُعَذَّبُ عَلَيْهِ أَمْ يُؤْجَرُ لِأَنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى يَقُولُ {وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ وَلَا مُؤْمِنَةٍ إِذَا قَضَى اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَمْرًا أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُمُ الْخِيَرَةُ}

Ibn Abbas said, 'The Prophet ﷺ forbade prayer after 'Asr, and I do not know whether he will be punished or rewarded for it, because Allah Almighty says: {It is not for a believing man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter, to have any choice in their affair.}'
