✧ “The first thing Allah created was the Pen. He created it from hajā before the alif and the lām, and it took the form of a pen of light. It was said to it: ‘Flow upon the Preserved Tablet.’ It said: ‘O Lord, with what?’ He said: ‘With all that will be until the Day of Resurrection.’ When Allah created the creation, He appointed guardians over them to record their deeds. When the Resurrection occurs, their deeds will be shown to them and it will be said: ‘This is Our record speaking about you in truth; indeed, We used to have transcribed whatever you used to do’ [Q 45:29]. He compared the two records, and they were identical. Ibn ʿAbbās said: ‘Are you not Arabs? Is a copy taken except from a record?’”
