✧ Ibn ʿAbbās was asked: “In how many days were the heavens and the earth created?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Allah created the first of days, Sunday, and the earth was created on Sunday and Monday. The mountains were created, the rivers were carved, fruits were planted in the earth, and the sustenance of every land was decreed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then He turned to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth: ‘Come willingly or unwillingly.’ They said: ‘We come willingly’ [Q 41:11]. He completed them as seven heavens in two days and revealed to each heaven its command on Thursday and Friday. The last creation was at the end of the hours of Friday. When Saturday came, there was no creation in it, so the Jews said what they said, and Allah ﷻ sent down its denial: ‘And We created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in six days, and no weariness touched Us’ [Q 50:38].”
