أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ آدَمَ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ

رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشِّرْكِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَقَدْ قَتَلُوا فَأَكْثَرُوا وَزَنَوْا فَأَكْثَرُوا مَا أَحْسَنَ مَا تَدْعُونَا إِلَيْهِ لَوْ أَخْبَرْتَنَا أَنَّ لِمَا عَمِلْنَا كَفَّارَةً فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ ﷻ {وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ} [الفرقان 68] الْآيَةُ وَنَزَلَتْ {قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ} [الزمر 53] «صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجَاهُ» على شرط البخاري ومسلم

✧ A man from the people of polytheism said: O Messenger of Allah, and they have killed and done so abundantly, and fornicated and done so abundantly: how excellent is what you call us to! If only you told us that there is an expiation for what we have done. So Allah, may He be glorified, sent down: {And those who do not call upon another god with Allah} [al-Furqan 68], the verse. And it was revealed: {Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah”} [al-Zumar 53]. “Sahih according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs, but they did not include it.” According to the condition of al-Bukhari and Muslim.
