أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّفَّارُ الْعَدْلُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ثنا خَلَّادٌ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ قَيْسٍ الْمُلَائِيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ
كُنْتُ أَقْرَأُ عَلَى أَبِي حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغْتُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {قُلْ هَلْ نُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِالْأَخْسَرِينَ أَعْمَالًا} [الكهف 103] الْآيَةُ قُلْتُ يَا أَبَتَاهُ أَهُمُ الْخَوَارِجُ؟ قَالَ لَا يَا بُنَيَّ اقْرَأِ الْآيَةَ الَّتِي بَعْدَهَا {أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَلِقَائِهِ فَحَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ فَلَا نُقِيمُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَزْنًا} [الكهف 105] قَالَ «هُمُ الْمُجْتَهِدُونَ مِنَ النَّصَارَى كَانَ كُفْرُهُمْ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَلِقَائِهِ» وَقَالُوا لَيْسَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ طَعَامٌ وَلَا شَرَابٌ وَلَكِنَّ الْخَوَارِجَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ الَّذِينَ يَنْقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَنْ يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ أُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ
Translation

✧ I was reciting to my father until I reached this verse: {Say: Shall We inform you of the greatest losers in their deeds} [Al-Kahf: 103]—the verse—I said: O father, are they the Khawarij? He said: No, my son, recite the verse after it: {Those are the ones who disbelieve in the signs of their Lord and in the meeting with Him, so their deeds are nullified, and We will assign no weight to them on the Day of Resurrection} [Al-Kahf: 105]. He said: "They are the devoted ones among the Christians; their disbelief in the signs of their Lord was in Muhammad and in the meeting with Him." And they said there is no food or drink in Paradise, but the Khawarij are the transgressors who break the covenant of Allah after its ratification and cut what Allah has commanded to be joined and spread corruption on the earth—those are the losers.
