✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he raised his gaze to the sky, then said, “This is the time when knowledge will be snatched away from people until they are unable to obtain any of it.” Ziyad b. Labid al-Ansari said, “O Messenger of Allah, how will it be snatched away from us when we have read the Quran? By Allah, we will certainly read it and make our women and children read it.” He said, “May your mother be bereaved of you, O Ziyad! I used to count you among the jurists of the people of Madinah. This Torah and Gospel are with the Jews and Christians, so what does it avail them?” Jubayr said: I met 'Ubadah b. al-Samit and said to him, “Do you not hear what your brother Abu al-Darda' says?” and I informed him of what he said. He said, “Abu al-Darda' spoke the truth. If you wish, I will tell you of the first knowledge to be lifted from people: khushu' (humility). Soon you will enter a congregational mosque and not see a single humble man in it.”
