✧ When {May the hands of Abu Lahab perish} [al-Masad 1] was revealed, al-'Awra' Umm Jamil bt. Harb approached, wailing, with a stone in her hand, and she was saying: Muzammam: we rejected him and his religion, we hated him and his affair, we disobeyed him. The Prophet ﷺ was sitting in the mosque, and with him was Abu Bakr. When Abu Bakr saw her, he said: O Messenger of Allah, she has approached, and I fear that she may see you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "She will never see me," and he recited Qur'an and sought protection through it, as he said, and he recited: {And when you recite the Qur'an, We placed between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a hidden barrier} [al-Isra' 45]. She stood before Abu Bakr and did not see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: O Abu Bakr, I was informed that your companion has satirized me. He said: No, by the Lord of this House, he has not satirized you. She turned away, saying: Quraysh has known that I am the daughter of their chief.
