أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ بِالْكُوفَةِ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ الْغِفَارِيُّ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا بَسَّامٌ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الطُّفَيْلِ عَامِرُ بْنُ وَاثِلَةَ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا قَامَ فَقَالَ سَلُونِي قَبْلَ أَنْ تَفْقِدُونِيَ وَلَنْ تَسْأَلُوا بَعْدِي مِثْلِي فَقَامَ ابْنُ الْكَوَّاءِ فَقَالَ مَنِ الَّذِينَ بَدَّلُوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ كُفْرًا وَأَحَلُّوا قَوْمَهُمْ دَارَ الْبَوَارِ؟ قَالَ مُنَافِقُوا قُرَيْشٍ قَالَ فَمَنِ الَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا؟ قَالَ مِنْهُمْ أَهْلُ حَرُورَاءَ

✧ I heard 'Ali stand up and say, 'Ask me before you lose me, for after me you will never ask the like of me.' Ibn al-Kawwa' stood up and said, 'Who are those who exchanged the favor of Allah for disbelief and led their people to the home of ruin?' He said, 'The hypocrites of Quraysh.' He said, 'Then who are those whose efforts are wasted in the life of this world while they think they are doing good?' He said, 'Among them are the people of Harura'.'
