حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْقَزَّازُ ثنا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
اسْتَأْذَنَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عُمَرَ فَقَالَ اسْتَأْذِنُوا لِابْنِ الْأَخْيَارِ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ إِيذَنُوا لَهُ فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ قَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ مَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ أَنَا فُلَانُ ابْنُ فُلَانِ ابْنِ فُلَانٍ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يَعُدُّ رِجَالًا مِنْ أَشْرَافِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ أَنْتَ يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ؟ قَالَ لَا قَالَ ذَاكَ ابْنُ الْأَخْيَارِ وَأَنْتَ ابْنُ الْأَشْرَارِ إِنَّمَا تَعُدُّ عَلَيَّ رِجَالَ أَهْلِ النَّارِ
Translation

✧ A man asked permission to enter upon 'Umar, and he said, "Ask permission for the son of the good ones." 'Umar said, "Give him permission." When he entered, 'Umar said to him, "Who are you?" He said, "I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, son of so-and-so," and he began counting men from the nobles of the Jahiliyyah. 'Umar said to him, "Are you Yusuf b. Ya'qub b. Ishaq b. Ibrahim?" He said, "No." He said, "That is the son of the good ones, and you are the son of the evil ones. You are only counting for me men of the people of the Fire."
