فَحَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْجُنَيْدُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ دِينَارٍ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ الْهَاشِمِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِيَ يَقُولُ

سَأَلْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ لِمَ لَمْ تُكْتَبْ فِي بَرَاءَةَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ؟ قَالَ لِأَنَّ «بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ أَمَانٌ وَبَرَاءَةٌ نَزَلَتْ بِالسَّيْفِ لَيْسَ فِيهَا أَمَانٌ»

✧ I asked Ali b. Abi Talib: 'Why was Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim not written in Bara'ah?' He said: 'Because Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim is a safeguard, while Bara'ah was revealed with the sword, and there is no safeguard in it.'
