✧ "O Muhammad, we know that you maintain family ties and speak the truth, and we do not consider you a liar. However, we reject the message that you have brought. So Allah, the Almighty, revealed: 'We know that what they say grieves you. Indeed, they do not deny you [Muhammad], but it is the verses of Allah that the wrongdoers reject.'" [Surah Al-An'am, verse 33]

machine translationAl-Thawrī narrates it from Abū Isḥāq, from Nājiyah b. Kaʿb, from ʿAlī; this was stated by Muʿāwiyah b. Hishām from al-Thawrī. Others narrate it from al-Thawrī as a mursal report, not mentioning ʿAlī in it, and this is the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version. It was also said, from Muʿāwiyah b. Hishām, from Shaybān, but that is not sound; it is only Sufyān. Isrāʾīl narrated it from Abū Isḥāq, from Abū Maysarah, as a mursal report from the Prophet ﷺ. Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. Saʿdān narrated to us: Shuʿayb b. Ayyūb narrated to us: Muʿāwiyah b. Hishām narrated to us, from Sufyān, from Abū Isḥāq, from Nājiyah b. Kaʿb, from ʿAlī, who said: Abū Jahl said to the Messenger of God ﷺ, "We do not call you a liar, but we deny what you have brought."
