The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed the people during the Farewell Pilgrimage and said: "Satan has despaired of being worshiped in your land, but he is content to be obeyed in matters other than that: deeds of yours that you consider insignificant, so beware. O people, I have left among you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet ﷺ. Every Muslim is a Muslim’s brother; the Muslims are brothers. None of his brother’s property is lawful for a person except what he gives willingly. Do not wrong one another, and do not revert after me to being unbelievers, striking one another’s necks."
Notes
✧ Al-Bukhari used the hadiths of Ikrimah as evidence, and Muslim used the reports of Abu Uways as evidence; all its other narrators are agreed upon. This hadith concerning the sermon of the Prophet ﷺ is agreed upon as having been included in the Sahih: "O people, I have left among you that after which you will not go astray if you hold fast to it: the Book of Allah. You will be questioned about me, so what will you say?" The mention of holding fast to the Sunnah in this sermon is uncommon, though it is needed. I have found supporting evidence for it in the hadith of Abu Hurayrah. Al-Bukhari used Ikrimah as evidence, and Muslim used Abu Uways Abdullah as evidence. It has a basis in the Sahih.
