✧ Explanation of Surah al-Baqarah

أَخْبَرَنِي الشَّيْخُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ مِنْ أَصْلِ كِتَابِهِ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ أَعْيَنَ ثنا عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ بْنُ مَالِكٍ الْجَزَرِيُّ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْإِيمَانِ فَتَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {لَيْسَ الْبِرُّ أَنْ تُوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَلَكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخَرِ} [البقرة 177] حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنَ الْآيَةِ قَالَ ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ أَيْضًا فَتَلَاهَا ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ أَيْضًا فَتَلَاهَا ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ «وَإِذَا عَمِلْتَ حَسَنَةً أَحَبَّهَا قَلْبُكَ وَإِذَا عَمِلْتَ سَيِّئَةً أَبْغَضَهَا قَلْبُكَ»

✧ He asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about faith, and he recited this verse: {Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east and the west, but righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah and the Last Day} [al-Baqarah 177] until he finished the verse. He said: Then he asked him again, and he recited it. Then he asked him again, and he recited it. Then he asked him, and he said: And when you do a good deed, your heart loves it; and when you do an evil deed, your heart hates it.
