✧ While we were with Ibn Abbas, a man came to him. He asked, “Where have you come from?” He replied, “From Iraq.” He asked, “From which of them?” He replied, “From Kufa.” He asked, “What is the news?” He replied, “I left them talking that Ali has come out against them.” He said, “What do you say? May you be bereft of your father! If we knew that, we would not have married his women or divided his inheritance.” Then he said: “I will tell you about that. The devils used to eavesdrop on the heaven, and one of them would come with a word of truth that people had heard, and he would add seventy lies to it, then instill it into people’s hearts. Allah informed Solomon son of David of that, so he took it and buried it under the throne. When Solomon died, a devil stood on the road and said, ‘Shall I guide you to Solomon’s treasure, the like of which no one has, the inaccessible treasure?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ So they brought it out, and it was sorcery. The nations inherited it, and its remnants are what the people of Iraq talk about. Then Allah revealed Solomon’s excuse, saying: {And they followed what the devils recited over Solomon’s kingdom, and Solomon did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved} [Al-Baqarah 102], up to the end of the verse.
