✧ The Jews of Khaybar were fighting Ghatafan. Whenever they met, the Jews of Khaybar were defeated. So the Jews sought refuge in this supplication: “O Allah, we ask You by the right of Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, whom You promised to bring forth for us at the end of time, to grant us victory over them.” He said: So whenever they met, they called with this supplication and defeated Ghatafan. But when the Prophet ﷺ was sent, they disbelieved in him, so Allah revealed: {And they used to seek victory before} [Al-Baqarah 89] — by you, O Muhammad, over the disbelievers. “ ” Necessity led to its inclusion in the tafsir, and it is strange from his narration. There is no necessity for that, i.e., for including it, for Abdullah is abandoned and doomed.
