Hafs al-Sadusi, thana ‘Asim b. ‘Ali, thana ‘Abd al-Rahman b. ‘Ubayd Allah al-Mas‘udi, from Abu Bakr b. Hafs, from ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Amir b. Rabi‘a, from his father, and he was a participant in Badr. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would send us out on expeditions when we had no provisions except leaves of dates. We would divide them up handful by handful until it came to a single date, single date. I said, “Father, what could a single date avail you?” He said, “Do not say that, my son, for we had only just lost them when we came to need them.”
