✧ I was beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when tranquility descended upon him, and the thigh of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell upon my thigh. I have not found the weight of anything heavier than the thigh of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ upon my thigh. Then it was relieved from him and he said: “Write.” So I wrote on a shoulder blade: {Not equal are those believers who sit [at home] – other than those who are disabled – and those who strive in the cause of Allah} [al-Nisa' 95] to the end of the verse. Then Ibn Umm Maktūm, who was a blind man, stood up when he heard the virtue of the strivers and said: “O Messenger of Allah, what about those believers who are unable to wage jihad?” When he finished his words, tranquility descended upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ again and his thigh fell upon my thigh, and I felt the same heaviness as the first time. Then it was relieved from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said: “Recite, O Zayd.” So I recited: {Not equal are those believers who sit [at home]} [al-Nisa' 95]. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: {other than those who are disabled} [al-Nisa' 95], the whole verse. Zayd said: Allah sent it down alone, and I appended it. By the One in whose hand is my soul, it is as if I am looking at its attachment at a crack in the shoulder blade.
