أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمَحْبُوبِيُّ بِمَرْوَ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ وَأَنْبَأَ يَحْيَى بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الْقَاضِي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ السِّنْدِيُّ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُلَيَّةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ مَرْثَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْيَزَنِيِّ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ وَكَانَتْ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ قَالَ

وَكَانَ إِذَا أُتِيَ بِجِنَازَةٍ لِيُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهَا فَتَقَالَّ أَهْلَهَا جَزَّأَهُمْ صُفُوفًا ثَلَاثَةً فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ عَلَيْهَا وَيَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَا صَفَّ صُفُوفٌ ثَلَاثَةً مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَلَى جِنَازَةٍ إِلَّا أَوْجَبَتْهُ» هَذَا اللَّفْظُ حَدِيثُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ فِي لَفْظِ الْمَحْبُوبِيِّ «إِلَّا غُفِرَ لَهُ»

✧ When a funeral procession was brought to him to pray over it and its people were few, he would divide them into three rows and pray with them over it, and he would say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No three rows of Muslims line up over a funeral except that it becomes obligatory [for forgiveness].' This wording is the hadith of Ibn 'Ulayya; in the wording of al-Mahbubi: 'except that he is forgiven.'
