أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ثنا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ

صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَلَى جِنَازَةٍ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقْرَأُ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ أَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ أَتَقْرَأُ؟ فَقَالَ «نَعَمْ إِنَّهُ حَقٌّ وَسُنَّةٌ»

✧ I prayed behind Ibn Abbas at a funeral, and I heard him recite the Opening of the Book. When he finished, I took his hand and asked him, "Do you recite?" He said, "Yes, it is a right and a sunnah."
