حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ ثنا أَبِي وَشُعَيْبُ بْنُ اللَّيْثِ قَالَا أَنْبَأَ اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ هِنْدِ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَعَبَّاسٌ عَمُّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَشْتَكِي فَتَمَنَّى عَبَّاسٌ الْمَوْتَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا عَمِّ لَا تَتَمَنَّ الْمَوْتَ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ كُنْتَ مُحْسِنًا فَإِنْ تُؤَخَّرْ تَزْدَدْ إِحْسَانًا إِلَى إِحْسَانِكَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ مُسِيئًا فَإِنْ تُؤَخَّرْ فَتُسْتَعْتَبْ مِنْ إِسَاءَتِكَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ فَلَا تَتَمَنَّ الْمَوْتَ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon them while 'Abbas, the paternal uncle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, was complaining of illness. 'Abbas wished for death, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "O my uncle, do not wish for death. If you are a doer of good, being delayed so you may increase in goodness upon your goodness is better for you. And if you are a wrongdoer, being delayed so you may seek pardon for your wrongdoing is better for you. So do not wish for death."

  • هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ إِنَّمَا اتَّفَقَا عَلَى حَدِيثِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ خَبَّابٍ لَوْلَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَتَمَنَّى الْمَوْتَ لَتَمَنَّيْتُهُ
