حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَافِظُ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ
«لَا تُوتِرُوا بِثَلَاثٍ وَلَا تَشَبَّهُوا بِصَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ أَوْتِرُوا بِخَمْسٍ أَوْ بِسَبْعٍ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not perform Witr (the odd numbered nightly prayer) to three rakahs making is seem like the Maghrib prayer. Rather extend it to five, or seven."
