أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ أَنبَأَنَا الْعَوَّامُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ قَالَ
بَلَغَ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّ عِنْدَ نَاسٍ كِتَابًا يُعْجَبُونَ بِهِ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ بِهِمْ حَتَّى أَتَوْهُ بِهِ فَمَحَاهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ قَبْلَكُمْ أَنَّهُمْ أَقْبَلُوا عَلَى كُتُبِ عُلَمَائِهِمْ وَتَرَكُوا كِتَابَ رَبِّهِمْ»

✧ Indeed, there are people who have a book that they admire, and they have not ceased with it until they brought it to me, and I have erased it. Then, he said, "The people of the book before you were destroyed because they embraced the books of their scholars and abandoned the book of their Lord."
