Virtue of Knowledge and the Scholar

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنْ بَحِيرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ قَالَ

«النَّاسُ عَالِمٌ وَمُتَعَلِّمٌ وَمَا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ هَمَجٌ لَا خَيْرَ فِيهِ»

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Muḥammad b. Kathīr
  2. al-Awzāʿī
  3. Baḥīr b. Saʿd
  4. Khālid b. Maʿdān

People are ˹of two types˺: the scholar and the student, and between that is ignorance, with no goodness in it.
