✧ I went out early in the morning to exercise a horse of mine, and I passed by a mosque among the mosques of the Banu Hanifah and heard them testifying that Musaylimah is the Messenger of Allah. I returned to Abdullah b. Mas'ud and informed him. He sent the police to them, and they seized them and brought them to him. The people repented and retracted their statement, so he released them. He brought forward a man from among them called Abdullah b. al-Nuwahah and struck his neck. They said to him, “You released the people and killed this one?” He said, “I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when this man and another entered as two delegates from Musaylimah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, ‘Do you both testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?’ They said to him, ‘We testify that Musaylimah is the Messenger of Allah.’ He said, ‘I believe in Allah and His messengers. If I were to kill a delegate, I would have killed you both.’ So for that reason I killed him.” And he ordered their mosque to be demolished, so it was torn down.

machine translationʿĀṣim b. Abī al-Najūd narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Al-Thawrī, al-Masʿūdī and Sallām Abū al-Mundhir narrated it from ʿĀṣim, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAbdullāh. Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh differed from them, and narrated it from ʿĀṣim, from Abū Wāʾil, from Abū Muʿayr al-Saʿdī, from Ibn Masʿūd. Haytham al-Dūrī related this report from a shaykh of his, from Abū ʿĀṣim, from al-Thawrī, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Wāʾil, and that is an error (wahm); the correct version is from al-Thawrī, from ʿĀṣim.
