✧ We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a raid, and we defeated the polytheists. The people hastened in killing until they killed the offspring. That reached the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: "What is the matter with people whom killing has carried away until they killed the offspring? Indeed, offspring must never be killed," three times.

machine translationIt is a well-known, established ḥadīth, though there is some concern about it, because ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī, Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn, Abū ʿAbdillāh b. Mandah, Abū Dāwūd and others denied that al-Ḥasan heard anything from al-Aswad.
